What does it take to succeed? | Success Mindset for Entrepreneurs

If someone were to ask you, “What does it take to succeed in your business?” what would you say? Would you initially come up with all the reasons why you CAN’T succeed? I think a lot of people will start with that as a knee-jerk response. But, the truth is, you CAN succeed and you CAN define what success means to you.   Let’s take a clear look at what it takes to succeed in business.  What do we need? 1. We need a product or service to offer. 2. We need someone to buy that product or service. Basically, that’s what we need.   So, then how do we create SUCCESS with those two elements? Success is relative, of course, and you and I likely define success differently, but let’s say we make a product. We call it Product X, and Product X sells for $100/each. And we know that to cover our expenses, cover our costs, our overhead and to pay ourselves to live the lifestyle we want, we need to make $10,000/month in gross sales. (Pretend we did all this math earlier and we got REALLY clear on our numbers and where every dollar is going.) So, doing that math, we know we need to sell 1,000 units of Product X every month to achieve SUCCESS. Cool. So you’ve just defined what you need to do to achieve success. This is huge, important work. A lot of entrepreneurs, business owners and people never outline exactly what success is to them and what they need to do to achieve it. Now that you’ve defined these parameters, it’s time...

Birthing a New Business | Starting fresh

What would you do if you had to start over again in business? What actions would you take? Who would you reach out to from Day One? What lessons have you learned that you can incorporate now? I’m starting a new endeavor, which I mentioned briefly in the last post and I’m taking this as an opportunity to do things as right as I can from the beginning. What does this mean for me?  It means I’m taking action and not letting perfection stop me. I’m allowing myself to be seen and to put my message out there. I’m designing systems for creation and for putting new content out in ways that are easy for me and fun and don’t take up my whole day.  I’m letting my intuition speak and it’s shaping my content, my schedule and the way I’m doing each of the pre-mentioned points in this paragraph. Specifically, it looks like this (so far): I’m creating in the ways I’m called to create. So far this has meant video, audio & writing emails and blog posts. Connecting in ways I want to connect. I’ve created a free FB group as another way to grow this tribe, get my message out and provide a safe, supportive space for members. I’m sending emails, I’m inviting others to give feedback and engage with their community. Putting my message out there. When I feel inspired, I create and then I share. I’m not filtering, I’m not doing (much) editing. I’m allowing things to get out into the world and help others. I’m not holding onto them waiting for perfection. I’m designing...

Getting Unstuck | Real Life Lessons

I’ve had this new project idea I’ve been bouncing around for about a year. It started as many other of my ideas start – there was great enthusiasm, energy, excitement and I did a lot of planning, domain-name buying, talking about it, getting ready to make it BIG. But then, I got caught. up. in. the details. I got stuck. I was trying really hard to push through and really think through a beautiful, elegant solution, but I kept getting stuck. There was a vision that I had and this product needed to perfectly fit my vision. But it wasn’t perfectly fitting, so I put it to the side. On the back-burner, maybe to never be heard from again. And, occasionally, I forgot it. I’d totally forget it. But then, when I was least expecting it, the idea would pop back into my head and demand attention. I’d let it bounce around for awhile, maybe chat about it with a friend, but, ultimately, I’d set it back on the timeout chair in the corner of the room.   This weekend, we had a friend to dinner, and my husband mentioned the idea again, which surprised me. I figured if I wasn’t thinking about this idea, surely he wasn’t thinking about this idea. But it got things moving for me and I realized that there is a reason this idea won’t stay down, there’s a reason why it came to me in the first place. I need to do something about it.   I need to put it out into the world, no matter how imperfect it is. It will...

Getting Back to Basics | Motivation for Entrepreneurs

Getting Back to Basics | 2 simple things you can do to turn around your business. I received some great advice today. Simple, but exactly what I needed to hear. In our businesses, there are only two things we need to do everyday. TWO things, that’s it. Music to my ears, for sure, hopefully for you as well. You ready to hear what those magical two things are? Here ya go: 1. Provide value to your community every day. 2. Present your community with an opportunity to buy, every day.    Let those sink in a bit and think about what that means for you and your business. What do you do to provide value every day?  How do you encourage your community to become not just a member of your tribe, but also a customer (without making them annoyed)? Let’s chat more about what those two items really entail. It might be different for your business and you might pick up some new ideas. Read on with an open mind and be open to new possibilities. And be sure to share any other methods that work for you. Digging Deeper Into the 2 Simple Things Concept: 1. Provide value to your community every day. This means putting out information, content that helps you connect with your tribe. Be human, be vulnerable, tell them about your thought process, behind-the-scenes, before-and-after scenarios of your clients, case studies, tell them stories, engage them and inspire them. Educate them. Get them interested and let them love you. AND let them not love you. The more you put out your message in an authentic way,...

First Step for the Stuck Creative | Motivation for Creation

You keep waiting for it to be right and the right time and maybe you’re waiting for it to be…. perfect.  Forget that.   What is the message I need to hear and share today? What is it?   Just Freaking Do IT!  Stop waiting, stop asking for permission. You don’t need it. Just jump the f in. Just do it. Just do it. Just do it. Be brave and vulnerable. Be terrified and fearless. In equal parts. You are here to do something so special and so different, but you keep putting it off. You keep waiting for it to be right and the right time and maybe you’re waiting for it to be…. perfect.  Forget that. Perfect doesn’t happen and the fastest way to get to be the best and to create the best things are by creating and putting them out into the world. Let them go and see what happens… See how they sit, see how they take off, see how they flop, see how they soar…. What happens? Are you putting these things out there and then hiding under the covers? (Guilty raises hand here. I know – I really know this place.) That will not get you anywhere either, unless you manage to get some kind of lightning-strike luck. You’ve got to share, share, share your works and keep communicating. Keep reaching out. Keep telling the people you love about what you love and how you’d love them to love it too. Be authentic. Be true. Be loving. Be strong. Then the vulnerability and the bravery won’t be so intense – the feelings...
